Echocardiography testing provides cardiac structure and flow information and is useful in the detection and management of many kinds of heart disease. This noninvasive test has become one of the standard diagnostic tools in cardiology with an estimated 10 million echocardiograms performed annually in the United States.
Echocardiography is a complex imaging technique that relies on the experience and training of both the physician and sonographer. Their interpretive and technical abilities determine the diagnostic accuracy of an echo- cardiographic examination.
Not everyone who performs ultrasound studies is qualified to do so. But at Community Howard Regional Health System, our sonographers are certified by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARMDS) or board eligible for this certification. In order to receive this certification, each has fulfilled educational requirements, has appropriate hands-on experience and has passed rigorous examinations. Cardiac and vascular ultrasound are rapidly changing and highly technical fields. Our ARDMS Registered Sonographers stay current, meeting continuing competency requirements in order to provide high quality diagnostic ultrasound. If your doctor requires you or a member of your family to have an ultrasound, have it performed at Community Howard Regional Health System where you can be sure your sonographer is registered. The quality of your doctor's diagnosis may depend on it.
The Cardiovascular Laboratory at Community Howard Regional Health System is one of the first Echo laboratories in Indiana to receive accreditation by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories (ICAEL).
