Organizational History and Profile
In May 1956, the Howard County Commissioners appointed a Board of Trustees for “the new hospital in Howard County.” Named to this new board of Trustees to represent four fields of community life were: William B. McFerrin, president of the Haynes Stellite Co., representing industry; Carl Tyner, farmer, representing agriculture; Walter Bennett, international representative of the Metal Polishers, Buffers, Platers and Helpers (AFL) a representative of labor; and Gene Pickett, a partner in the Mast and Pickett Funeral Home, Greentown, the business representative. These gentlemen, along with L.M. Lacey, Jr., promptly formed the Howard Community Hospital Foundation. more
