The Oncology Center located at our Main Campus hospital provides a comprehensive cancer program for Howard Regional Health System.
Oncology/Hematology services include:
Community Education & Outreach Genetic Consultative Services Hematology Inpatient & Outpatient Treatments Medical Oncology Oncology Nurse on Call Onsite Laboratory & Imaging Services Participation in Clinical Trials Patient Education Prevention & Detection Radiation Oncology Tobacco Cessation Programs
Our American College of Surgeons approved program provides radiation therapy and chemotherapy services to outpatients and inpatients. We also diagnose and treat blood disorders and clotting disorders. Clients who are at risk of specifc cancers also have access to genetic counseling.
IMRT, Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy, brings improved outcomes to our patients. This state-of-the-art radiation therapy delivery system reduces the amount of radiation to healthy tissue and can increase the rate of tumor control while significantly reducing adverse side effects.
Patients are treated using a multidisciplinary approach including physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, radiation therapists, chaplains, social workers and dietitians. Cancer patients also have access to symptom management and smoking cessation resources through the services of the two nurse practitioners.
